What is a brigadeiro?
Often described as a cross between a traditional European truffle and a velvety soft caramel, the perfect brigadeiro is an artisanal masterpiece. Its texture is the ultimate secret: intensely rich like fudge, delightfully chewy like caramel, and smooth like a creamy truffle.
Meet Mariana
Brigs Gourmet was born from a lifetime of rolling brigadeiros, literally. Founder Mariana Gabi grew up in Brazil, where brigadeiro-making wasn't a special occasion skill, it was a childhood chore (and the best part of every birthday party). Little hands, sticky fingers, and a bowl of chocolate passed around the kitchen, that's where it started.
Today, Mariana is a mom of two, bringing that same joy to Nashville. Now dressed up in premium chocolate. Every batch is hand-rolled in small batches for gift boxes, weddings, and corporate gifting across the city.
The History: Born in Campaign, Beloved Forever
In 1945, Rio de Janeiro was alive with political change. Running for president was Eduardo Gomes, a dashing war hero, an elite military Brigadeiro (Brigadier), and a bachelor whose official campaign slogan was: "Vote for the Brigadeiro, because he’s handsome and single." To raise campaign funds, society women hosted high-end tea parties. For one event, a local baker mixed sweet condensed milk, rich butter, and premium cocoa, rolling them into an irresistible chocolate truffle named after the candidate.
The Brigadier lost the election, but his namesake truffle won the heart of a nation. Today, we carry that legacy forward, preserving the romance of its origin while elevating its craftsmanship for the modern palate.
